Meet the Instructors:

Stephanie Edwards

  • Master of Music, Piano Performance - George Mason University (2013)
  • Bachelor of Arts in Music - Evangel University (2011)

Stephanie's Story:

On her 10th birthday, Stephanie heard the phrase "juvenile rheumatoid arthritis" for the first time.  The doctor looked at her father and simply stated, "She has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis."  He went on to predict that the disease would remain with her for the rest of her life and even put her in a wheelchair by the time she reached high school.  The following months were characterized by intense pain, regular doctors visits, and various medical treatments.  Over a year passed and the prediction remained the same... until a moment of prayer changed everything.  In an instant, God removed the arthritis and fully restored Stephanie's health.  Visions of crippled hands and fused joints gave way to music-making, piano-playing possibility.

Because of Stephanie's experience, she values the ability to play piano and enjoys sharing that gift with her students.  In 2011, she began actively teaching private piano lessons in Northern Virginia and founded Edwards Piano Studio, LLC.

Stephanie teaches beginning through advanced students, of all ages and backgrounds.  She even taught in Pakistan from 2013-2014, sharing the joys of English and music in a cross-cultural context.  She intentionally tailors lessons to suit the needs and goals of individual students while challenging students to reach high performance standards.

Stephanie completed a MM in Piano Performance at George Mason University, studying under Dr. Linda Apple Monson. While at GMU, she participated in the 2012 Piano Pedagogy Seminar.  Some of her honors performances included Arts by George!, the 2012 Honors Recital, and the highly acclaimed Grand Piano Celebrations.  She also served as music director / rehearsal accompanist for summer community theater camps in Purcellville, VA from 2011-2014.  Stephanie holds a BA in Music from Evangel University. During her time at Evangel, she toured the US and Europe with the Evangel Concert Orchestra, served as pianist for Campbell United Methodist Church, and was accepted into Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society.

In addition to teaching, Stephanie enjoys serving on the worship team at Centerpointe Church in Fairfax, VA and studying South Asia Studies at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.  She is also a member of the Amaris Trio.
